AN ASSIGNMENT ON EXPORT IN PERUM PERHUTANI KBM INK UNIT II EAST JAVA (part 4)

CHAPTER IV

REFLECTION


4.1 Reflection on the Institution

Perum Perhutani KBM INK Unit II Jawa Timur was a big company with professional worker and discipline system of marketing. During the apprenticeship, the writer was accepted well. The writer was guided carefully and patiently by the worker especially by the head of export Mr.Suwardi. The writer saw the professionalism of work in Perum Perhutani KBM INK. However, there were many obstacles and mistake commonly in a company.

One of the major pitfalls in an international sale is the quality of the documentation supporting the transaction. A mistake in spelling, execution, language or number of copies will cause substantial delays in obtaining clearance and require additional expenditures to complete the process. It wasted time and money cuts into profits, producing dissatisfied customers and additional aggravation to export staff.
The writer found, there were a few of discrepancies of documentation in Perum Perhutani KBM INK such as incorrect or inadequate internal procedures and policies.The discrepancies in documentation reflect weaknesses in business management (lack of co-ordination, planning, monitoring, control), or in the LC-management part of business management (lack of LC-terms negotiation and examination, and lack of UCP knowledge-management and compliance-management skills).


4.2 Refection on the Program
Generally, the execution of apprenticeship program in Perum Perhutani KBM INK Unit II Jawa Timur had done well although it was not perfect. The advisor had given directions and information. The writer got a lot of knowledge and information about what export is, what general procedures of export is, what documents needed in export term. But, the writer was not contented enough because during the apprenticeship, the writer just learned the theory and observed how the staffs work. The writer had no chance to practice how to fulfill export documents. Thus, job description which showed that the writer was allowed to fulfill the export documents was not done. It might due to:
• There was no special staff as HRD or special advisor to conduct every apprenticeship. The writer was placed in particular room called multipurpose room which was used to take a rest, keep equipments, etc.
• The writer felt confusion what to do in the work place instead just watched and observed generally.
• The advisor was too busy in his job. The writer was not involved in his work. Thus the writer felt had no any authority to work something. Then the writer was no dare enough to ask or help.
• Although, the advisor suggested to the writer to be active giving question or doing activity in doc-pal division but the time which the writer had was not effective. Eventhough the writer observed directly, but the writer was still confusion how to fulfill the documents of export. The writer felt less in experience because unfortunately the writer had no chance to fulfill the document of export in Perum Perhutani KBM INK.
Generally, the execution of apprenticeship program in Perum Perhutani KBM INK Unit II Jawa timur was done well. However the writer thanked to all staff of Perum Perhutani KBM INK who had received the writer in apprenticeship in their company. The writer felt enjoy during the execution of thr program. Perum Perhutani KBM INK welcomed well.
In the case of unfortunate work which was not done, the writer was aware of it. It might due to:
• The staff or the advisor was very busy because there was many order and job whether export or domestic trading.
• There was rare the students of college doing apprenticeship in Perum Perhutani KBM INK. It was common the student of senior high school doing apprenticeship there.


4.3 Reflection on the Significance of the Curriculum

Apprenticeship is a right way for college students to get knowledge, information, and experience about a company and the real work in the company. During the writer experiences of apprenticeship, the writer could conclude that this apprenticeship brought many advantages such as getting new knowledge, getting experiences in the real work. Fortunately, the writer was a student of Business English study program UNESA. The writer was taught about economy field, business activity, export import term, etc that was very useful and suitable with job description. Moreover, those courses were taught in English. Job description which did by the writer was export, so English is very important in fulfilling and checking the documents although the writer had no chance to fulfill document. The writer could say, an apprenticeship in Perum Perhutani KBM INK Unit II Jawa Timur which was done by the writer was a suitable work and hopefully it can be done better for the next students.
