CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
I.1 Background of Apprenticeship
In the globalization era, technology and science have developed fast throughout the world including economy. Every country in the world through many ways to develop their economic condition particularly type and practice in global trade activity.
An export is a legal trade transporting good or commodity from one country to another country. Export is an important part of international trade. Export goods and services are provided to foreign consumer by domestic producers. Export of commercial quantities of goods normally requires involvement of the customs authorities in both the country of export and the country of import.
The theory of international trade and commercial policy is one of the oldest branches of economic thought. Exporting is a major component of international trade, and the macroeconomic risks and benefits of exporting are regularly discussed and disputed by economists and others. Two views concerning international trade present different perspectives. The first recognizes the benefits of international trade. The second concerns itself with the possibly that certain domestic industries (or laborers, or culture) could be harmed by foreign competition.
In international trade English as an international language is often called as Englishes because of its unlimited use throughout the world. It is very important factor in international trade. Without language to communicate each other, export-import activity cannot be done successfully.
D3 Business English study program of Language and Art faculty UNESA has taken part of those explained points above. The study program has given basic course and knowledge about economy and business field and also English as the main conductor language. In generally, the students of D3 Business English study program have capability to conduct business activity.
As a student of D3 Business English in college, the writer need to have work experience in company, the writer take an apprenticeship and get knowledge from it. That is the preparation to be a good businessman or other profession as a way to build economic condition of this country.
Perum Perhutani KBM INK is a big company under government authority. Perum Perhutani KMB INK expands their commodities in both Indonesia and foreign country (export). They export some commodities such as gumrosine, turpentine oil, kopal, seedlack, etc. The writer did this apprenticeship and Perum Perhutani Unit II KBM INK Jawa Timur was right place to do. As the result, the writer arranged this report as a final assignment to graduate from this study.
I.2 Statement of the Problem
Perum Perhutani KBM INK is a big company which conducts many industry commodities. They also export their products. It means there are so many subjects can be studied. It is better for the writer to make limitation aiming to point toward the subject and make this final exam clear. The writer formulates the problem as follows:
1. How Perum Perhutani KBM INK export its commodities?
2. What kinds of documents which are needed in export term in Perum Perhutani?
3. What are the obstacles of the documentation process of export in Perum Perhutani?
I.3 Purposes of the Apprenticeship
According to the statement of the problem, the purposes of the apprenticeship can be explained below:
1. To know the general procedures of export in Perum Perhutani KBM INK
2. To know the documents which are needed in export term in Perum Perhutani KBM INK
3. To know the obstacles of the documentation process of export in Perum Perhutani KBM INK
I.4 Significance of the Apprenticeship
Based on the background of the apprenticeship, there are some significances of the apprenticeship:
For Writer:
• Make the writer knows the atmosphere and the real condition of work
• Make the writer understand how to apply the course got from campus to the real work
• Give the writer experience in working and make the writer ready to work after graduating
For UNESA:
• The university can keep the corporation especially between Business English study program and Perum Perhutani KBM INK Jawa Timur
• The university know the information about required work in the company
For the company:
• The company can get a new spirit and fresh energy from the fresh graduated students
• The company can find new working style and system from the students
For further apprenticeship:
• The report of apprenticeship can be reference for the next students in their apprenticeship.
I.5 Definitions of Key Terms
1. Invoice
Invoice is a bill for the goods from the seller to the buyer. These invoices are often used by governments to determine the true value of goods when assessing customs duties. Governments that use the commercial invoice to control imports will often specify its form, content, number of copy, language to be used, and other characteristics.
2. Letter of Credit (L/C)
Letter of credit is a document issued by a bank at buyer's request in favor of a seller, promising to pay an agreed amount of money upon receipt by the bank of certain documents within a specified time.
3. Bill of Lading (B/L)
Bill of Lading is a document which provides the terms of the contract between the shipper and the transportation company to move freight between stated points at a specified charge
4. Insurance Certificate
Insurance Certificate is a document issued by an insurance company, usually to order of shipper, under a marine policy and in cover of a particular shipment of merchandise.
5. Packing List
Packing List is a list which shows number and kinds of packages being shipped, totals of gross, legal, and net weights of the packages, and marks and numbers on the packages. The list may be requested by an importer or may be required by an importing country to facilitate the clearance of goods through custom sacking List.
6. Certificate of Inspection
Certificate of inspection is a document in which certification is made as to the good condition of the merchandise immediately prior to shipment. The buyer usually designates the inspecting organization, usually an independent inspection firm or government body.
7. Certificate of Manufacture
Certificate of manufacture is a statement by a producer, sometimes notarized, which certifies that manufacture has been completed and that the goods are at the disposal of the buyer.
8. Certificate of Origin
Certificate of origin is a document in which certification is made as to the country of origin of the merchandise. C.F.R. (Cost and Freight) and C.I.F. (Cost, Insurance, and Freight)—indicate that the seller will deliver the goods onto a vessel and pay all the normal charges to get the cargo to the named seaport. The buyer assumes all risks from the time the cargo is placed onto the vessel at the seaport of loading. C.I.F. also indicates that the seller arranges for insurance as an automatic condition of the contract.
